Purposes of art

Art has had a great number of different functions throughout its history, but as for me, the following are the most important:

1. Experience of the mysterious. Art provides a way to experience one's self in relation to the universe. We can find something important to us and we'll maybe find the truth among mysterious things.

2. Expression of the imagination.  Art provides a range of forms, symbols and ideas with meanings that are maleable. Art provides  means to express the imagination in non-grammatic ways that are not tied to the formality of spoken or written language.

3. Communication. Art, at its simplest, is a form of communication.

4. Art as entertainment. Art may seek to bring about a particular emotion or mood, for the purpose of relaxing or entertaining the viewer. The paintings of skilled painters are appreciated and admired by millions of people today, by those who can see the beauty.

5. Art for propaganda, or commercialism. Art is often used as a form of propaganda of some ideas or conceptions. We can influence other people's views too.
